Shown is a compact, ¾ size Bb Besson 2-20 Tuba made in England, and includes the “50 Medals of Honor” on the bell. I was unable to find a serial number, but it may date to the late 1960’s. There is no mouthpiece. I used a Bach 1 1/2G bass trombone mouthpiece to make the video.
Please note: I cannot ship this tuba. If you are not able to pick it up at the Medford, NJ Police Station, 91 Union Street, Medford NJ, 08055…do not bid on this tuba!
This tuba has been abused and partially playable (listen to video on Ebay-note, I am not a tuba player). It requires significant repairs. Once it was a very high-quality tuba that, with its smaller size, could be either played upright indoors or used for marching outside.
Please examine the pictures before purchasing. I have included a list of items requiring attention, however, there could be other hidden issues that I have not spotted.
1. There is no mouthpiece (a large shank base trombone fits nicely).
2. The spring & cork on the spit valve require repair.
3. The lead pipe needs to be resoldered to the bell.
4. Three of the four tuning slides are stuck.
5. Five of the six valve caps are stuck.
6. A proper chemical cleaning is suggested ( I did flush it out with water).
7. Repair/adjust/repair any significant tubing dents that impact intonation.
8. Roll out the bell back to its original shape.
It has been priced low enough that someone could adopt it as a project and either resell it or play it themselves. It would be a terrific addition to a bass trombonist’s repertoire!
I will meet you at the Medford NJ Police Station, 91 Union St # 102 Medford, New Jersey 08055.
